CVE-2021-21295: medium-severity vulnerability in netty io.netty:netty-codec-http2
Possible request smuggling in HTTP/2 due missing validation
Published · Updated
E-mail alert when it lands in KEV, gets a public PoC or its score goes up.
No sign of exploitation. No public exploitation artifact known so far.
Netty's HTTP/2 handler fails to validate Content-Length headers when converting requests to HTTP/1.1, allowing attackers to smuggle malicious requests through proxies by hiding them in the message body.
HTTP/2 requests with invalid Content-Length headers bypass validation in Http2MultiplexHandler and Http2StreamFrameToHttpObjectCodec. When these requests are converted to HTTP/1.1 and forwarded to backend services, the unchecked Content-Length enables request smuggling attacks where additional requests can be injected in the body and interpreted as separate requests by the downstream HTTP/1.1 parser.
