Apply mitigations in accordance with vendor instructions, ensuring compliance with CISA’s BOD 26-04 Prioritizing Security Updates Based on Risk (see URL in Notes) guidance and CISA’s “Forensics Triage Requirements” (see URL in Notes). Follow applicable BOD 26-04 guidance for cloud services or discontinue use of the product if mitigations are unavailable. Stakeholders are responsible for evaluating each asset's internet exposure and ensuring adherence to BOD 26-04 patching guidelines.
A flaw in PHP can leave internal memory references pointing to data from an earlier web request after that data has been freed. Attackers can use this to run their own code on the server.
PHP global state may keep pointers into request memory after it is freed, or be repopulated after reset, leading to use-after-free conditions (CWE-416, CWE-1325, CWE-824) and branching on uninitialized stale values in subsequent requests. Multiple triggering strategies are described, and the result is remote code execution with a CVSS score of 9.2 (Critical).
