Why check an IP

IP addresses are the origin of much of today’s attacks: scans for open ports, login attempts, malware distribution and command-and-control servers. Before allowing access, investigating a suspicious log or blocking traffic, knowing an IP’s reputation saves time and prevents mistakes.

If an IP appears in attack-indicator databases, it signals it has already been seen in malicious activity. If it is only mass-scanning the internet, it is background noise — and telling the two apart avoids unnecessary blocks and focuses attention on what matters.

What does ‘noise’ mean?
These are IPs that scan the entire internet automatically, without targeting you specifically. Not always malicious, but they generate a lot of log noise — so they are flagged separately.
Does checking an IP replace a firewall?
No. The check is a reputation lookup to support decisions (investigate, block, allow). Defense itself depends on firewall, monitoring and good practices.
How often does the data update?
