What the check shows
Why check an IP
IP addresses are the origin of much of today’s attacks: scans for open ports, login attempts, malware distribution and command-and-control servers. Before allowing access, investigating a suspicious log or blocking traffic, knowing an IP’s reputation saves time and prevents mistakes.
If an IP appears in attack-indicator databases, it signals it has already been seen in malicious activity. If it is only mass-scanning the internet, it is background noise — and telling the two apart avoids unnecessary blocks and focuses attention on what matters.
Where the data comes from
- Vexday’s IOC base, fed by abuse.ch (ThreatFox, URLhaus, MalwareBazaar) — real malware infrastructure.
- GreyNoise Community, which classifies IPs that mass-scan the internet (the internet’s background noise).
